Surprise High Adventure

This was the first summer in many years that Rik hadn't planned on going to boys camp or high adventure, and I think he was a little sad about that.  He has been to some amazing places joining the young men and leaders.  The night before the young men were leaving for this year's high adventure, Rik got a call that one of the leaders was sick, and they needed another leader to go.  At about 11:30pm, after making several calls, he decided to make the arrangements to go.  We threw everything together as fast as we could, Rik rearranged all his appointments at work, and headed up to the mountains near Redfish Lake.  He loved it!

One of the highlights for Rik was going white water kayaking.  The guides that were taking them and other groups said that they bring the "duckies" (the kayaks) purely for the entertainment value (the rest of the people were in boats.)  Here's Rik's first attempt over some rapids.  You can't tell from the pictures, but the boats are in the background enjoying the show!

Who was in front of Rik in the kayak to take those pictures? Those were great shots! Glad he got to go with the YM, it must have been weird not having a son go for the first time in a long time!
